Andrew has lived in Korea for over a decade — long enough that he rolls kimbap and simmers kimchi jjigae without needing a recipe. The Korean mom of the house grew up here. Our daughter was born and raised in Korea from day one — this isn’t a family passing through, it’s the family that actually lives it, day to day. There’s a New Zealand and Malaysian-Chinese thread running through the household too, which is why the odd holiday tradition doesn’t always look “typically Korean” — but the life we’re documenting here is a real, long-term Korean life.
